Copper Weathervanes

Our weathervanes are truly beautiful works of art and will surely add a dimension of elegance and functionality to your roofline. Each weathervane "figure" is made with copper that is polished to a brilliant richness in color. The directional (N, S, E, W) is made of solid brass and the rod(s) is 3/4" solid brass. They are 100% maintenance-free and can be counted on for a lifetime of service. Mount them directly on your building or on your cupola. All of our weathervanes are fully functional - they will point in the direction the wind is coming from. An Adjustable Aluminum Mounting Kit for direct-to-roof mounting is available below. The earliest mention in history of the wind vane is in the form of a bronze statue of Triton holding a rod in his outstretched hand in Athens. The wind vane evolved into a weathercock as the Roman Empire converted to Christianity. Many churches have a weathercock on the tower or spire. The cock refers to the fall of St. Peter and to intimate the necessity for watchfulness and humility.
As people settled in the new world, their buildings were adorned with weathervanes to point ut the direction of the wind. These early settlers depended on the land for their sustenance. While working in the fields, they paid keen attention to the direction their weathervanes pointed at the rising and setting of the sun.
