Flossie's Old Fashioned Tomato Soup
In heavy
stockpot, simmer the broth, tomatoes, sugar, herbs, and seasonings for
30 minutes. In saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the flour until
smooth. Gradually add the milk or cream, stirring until thickened. Pour
into stockpot and stir until thoroughly heated but not boiling. Garnish.
Fresh basil leaf or watercress looks and tastes great.

qt. rich chicken broth
1 gallon peeled, diced tomatoes with juice
1 c. sugar (less if desired)
1 t. chopped parsley
1 t. chopped basil
salt and pepper to taste
3 T. butter
5 T. flour
1 quart half-and-half, milk, or half milk and half evaporated milk |
