Half Moon Pies
Wash the Snitz and add the
water. Cover and cook until soft and water is completely absorbed. Add
sugar and cook 10 minutes longer. Remove from heat. Stir until smooth. Put
through ricer. Set aside to col. Make a pie dough, shaping the dough to
the size of a walnut. Roll our dough balls into round pieces. Mark half of
the dough with a pie crimper and on the other half place one large
tablespoon of filling. Shape it like a half moon. Press edges together.
Cut off remaining dough wit pie crimper. Bake in hot (400°
F. ) oven. Makes 4 to 5 dozen Snitz:
Cook dried apples until soft. Put through a ricer and add cinnamon
and mix. Makes 3¼ qt. prepared snitz. |

1 Tbsp. allspice
