Chop tomatoes and onions; add salt. Let stand overnight. Pour into colander and drain off juice; pour water over it and drain again. Add rest of ingredients except sugar. Cook slowly for 2 hours; add brown sugar. Put in jars. Cold pack for 5 minutes. Real good on meats, especially roasts.
