Golden Corn Gems
Sift
together the corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cream the
shortening and beat in the egg. Add the dry ingredients alternately with
milk. Do not over beat. Pour into greased corn bread molds, muffin tins
or baking dish. Bake in a preheated 375° F. oven for 20 to 25 minutes,
or until golden brown.

1 c. yellow cornmeal
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. sugar
2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
3 T. shortening
1 egg
1 c. sour milk (buttermilk could be used)
