Brown -N-Serve Buns
In a large
bowl, mix 3 c. flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Combine milk, water and
shortening in saucepan; heat until very warm. Gradually add to dry
ingredients and beat 21 minutes. Add 2 c. flour and again beat 2
minutes. Add 2 more c. flour and beat 2 more minutes. Stir in enough
flour to make a soft dough; knead until smooth. Let rise until double.
Divide into 4 equal pieces. Divide each piece into 12 pieces; shape each
piece into a ball. Put into greased muffin cups or cake pans. Let rise
until almost double. Bake at 275° F. for 25-30 minutes or until buns
just start to change color. When cool, wrap in plastic bags and
refrigerate up to 1 week. Before serving place on ungreased baking
sheet. Bake at 400° F. for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Yield: 4 dozen buns.
